The purpose of the WEC Pratt Nature Center Day Camp (PNCDC) Scholarship is to provide experiences in the outdoors that foster a deeper understanding of our natural environment, its importance in our lives, and the positive or negative impact our actions have on the natural environment. The WEC PNCDC Sponsorship covers one week at day camp. Sponsorship recipients may select the week they wish to attend, subject to availability.
PNCDC is a co-ed program for young children who have an interest in the outdoors and the wonders of nature. The PNCDC’s goal is to teach children about our natural environment, which encompasses all living and non-living things that are naturally on Earth. PNCDC does this by involving the children in supervised hands-on activities in different programs in a safe, constructive, and friendly atmosphere.
Pratt fills each camp day with hikes and activities related to the natural environment. Activities range from nature arts and crafts, predator-prey games, and identifying animal tracks on hikes through the forests of Mt. Tom. The program staff members are continually developing a range of exciting hands-on activities to interest children in the natural environment, whether they are attending for their first week or have attended camp before. All activities are age-appropriate, non-competitive, and designed to encourage respect for oneself, for others, and for the natural environment.
Who can apply: Open to students at Washington Primary School.
