WEC Environmental Scholarship Recommendation

WEC Scholarships

Environmental Scholarships for up to $2,000 each are available for students who intend to or are pursuing environmental majors in college and beyond. The scholarships are open to any Washington, Roxbury or Bridgewater student in sound scholastic standing provided the student attends or has attended high school in Washington, Connecticut. Residents of Washington will have preference, all other application factors being equal and awards will be determined by WEC directors.

Funds for these scholarships come from the generous donations of WEC supporters and from memorial donations made in honor of environmentally minded members of the Washington community.

The National Iron Bank / Mary Anne Erichsen Memorial Fund honors Mary Anne Erichsen. Mary Anne supported many worthy environmental causes during her lifetime and was kind enough to bequeath the Council generously. National Iron Bank’s annual gift is instrumental in supporting WEC’s scholarship funds, and supports their philosophy of “giving back” to the residents who live and work alongside them.

The Patrick O'Brien Memorial Fund honors Patrick O’Brien who passed away in 2020. Patrick grew up in Washington and was a 2010 Shepaug graduate, a star athlete, and a friend to so many local students and their families. Patrick's commitment to conservation, animals, and the environment was demonstrated by his career as a Wildlife Biologist at the USDA and by his healthy lifestyle. Patrick received his B.S. in Conservation of Natural Resources and M.S. in Biology and did extensive research on the American Marten population in Southern Vermont which was published in The Journal of Small Carnivores.

TheKen Williams Memorial Fund honors Ken Williams who was a past WEC President and Treasurer and who died in 1998.
